Spring weekend

Definitely the first weekend of spring: traffic jam at the garden centre, queues for the airport car park, baby rabbits breakfasting in my herb garden.

The kids are away for ten whole days and nights so I hope to be knitting and sewing and gardening in all the extra time I will have to myself.

The sea wool socks are looking and feeling lovely.

I MUST get a baby garment whipped up for a friend whose due date has crept up on me.

After reading It’s Vintage, Darling I am newly inspired to get going with my spring / summer wardrobe. It’s a book about how to spot top quality second-hand clothing, but as a result is a great primer in the details that make clothes fit better and last longer.

Sewing project number one: red and cream Liberty print square-necked smock with ¾ length sleeves and a crisp cotton lace trim. First Love is doubtful – he thinks it is a bit “twee” for me. Kind of missing the point - it is meant to be ironic. Hmmm. Can I pull off irony?

Ooooooo, that's a nice colourway... And a bloody good way of using it :D What gauge are you knitting to?

And as for what you said about how well it will wear - maybe he could wear them as dress socks?
