FL had his monthly check up today and was told that his Free Light Chains result shows that his MM is “stable”. Next month he will have his Zometa infusion as usual but will not see a doctor. TWO months after that he will be “reviewed”.
I need to view this as a positive step. There is no point in wasting NHS time and money if FL doesn’t need attention. We need to try to relax and get on with life and stop reading things into every little symptom. Yaddayaddayadda - that's me giving myself a talking-to! It just makes me feel… vulnerable. We know that MM hits hard and fast when it accelerates. I am just afraid of missing the signs, or coming across as hypochondriacs by reporting the most inconsequential things.
A lot could happen in three months – and that’s the timescale for him next seeing a doctor. Three months! That’s quite a high proportion of the “two years” he was given as a prognosis. But maybe he will be one of the lucky few who last four years, ten years… who knows?
There were only three people in the waiting room today. They are usually queuing in the hallway. My cynical self says it’s all about cost savings.
