A Spring Walk

Snow is forecast, so The Girl and I decided to take the chance to explore the hills above our holiday cottage while the weather was fine.
At least... I made the decision and The Girl didn't know what she was letting herself in for until it was too late.
This followed a discussion about fitness and the need to get some.  She was the one who took the "couch to 5k" pull-out from the Saturday newspaper, not me!
But we had an equipment issue.  We had to swop wellies halfway through.  Hers were too tight and mine leaked.
For the first 45 minutes it was uphill all the way.  Mutiny was imminent.  I handed her the dog lead, and Hero kept the momentum going.
When we reached the top, the views were pretty impressive.
Our house is in the middle of that dark green layer of tree-tops behind me.

According to the drawing in the guidebook, this path was supposed to loop round the top of the trees and back down to another group of holiday cottages, passing a "nature pond".

Hmmm.

I think we may have missed the turning.  That water on the horizon is the outlet of Loch Broom.  The path showed no sign of ending, and was curving away to the right, across the open moorland
So we turned back and retraced our steps, with the promise of hot cross buns when we got home :)

FL had a good morning too...

Up in the mountains ourselves this week. Woke up to everything coated in snow this morning. We've not hiked nearly as far as you, I'm afraid, but have done the FL thing for sure!!!! Enjoy!

It's fun exploring, esp. when there are hot cross buns waiting for you at the end! But boot problems can kill the joy, for sure. :)

a word of caution about 'couch to 5k'. Daughter and I started doing it about 18 months ago and found it a very steep curve initially. Now, because of stopping and starting and general other things getting on the way we seem to be permanently on week 7...

I can't decide which I'd prefer leaking wellies or tight ones! ;D
